| Larry Welo (pronounced: way-low) has been creating his etchings since the early 1970's. He studied art at Luther College in Decorah,
Iowa, and operated his studio in Minneapolis until 1994 when he and his family moved to Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. About fifteen miles outside of Madison, his studio is located at
209 East Main Street in Mount Horeb, next to Sole e Sapori Italian Restaurant.
Larry Welo is the brother of Gulden Kunstverks owner Walter N. Welo.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My etchings have always been inspired by various aspects of my life; they are, in a sense, self portraits. My imagery is often rooted in the natural world. I create my
etchings entirely in my studio; I find my information in sketches I have drawn, written notations and most importantly, my imagination. My images are not intended to be
duplications of the world, but instead interpretations of it. It is important to me that the creative process be a voyage of discovery, always looking in new directions and
following new avenues.
