Gulden Kunstverk is owned and operated by the Norwegian American Walter N. Welo. Welo was born and raised in Hibbing, MN and graduated from Luther College before moving to Norway in 1977. Welo’s maternal and paternal grandparents were from Norway as well as his mother Eva, who was born and raised at Gvarv in Telemark.

Walters moving to Norway started as a youthful desire to seek his roots. He met his wife Bibbi Lund in 1978, they married in 79 and moved to Gulden farm in 1980. Gulden farm had been mostly a summer residence in Bibbi’s family since 1880. Rehabilitating the old homestead began in 1980 before Gulden Kunstverk opened its doors to the public in 1985.

After 17 years Gulden Kunstverk has become a successful and influential contemporary art gallery in southern Norway. Many of Norways most famous artists have exhibited at Gulden. also recognized as one of most active and best selling galleries in southern Norway.
The Gallery is open all year round.
